When increasing playback rate of items in Reaper, there is a chunk of extra time left over that you want to get rid of. Here is one technique for accurately removing the extra time after increasing the playback rate of an audio item (or items).

In this video I meander around various subjects including: • Using Stretch Markers to Quantise Audio to the Grid. • Using Dynamic Split to Insert Stretch Markers at Transients. • Using Dynamic Split to ACTUALLY SPLIT AUDIO. • Whether it is always WISE to quantise. As always, I appreciate your feedback, especially the comments that…
Using Playback Live – Some Thoughts If you are a musical director, session musician, playback tech or band member who regularly uses backing tracks as part of their live show, then this post is for you. Whether you are using Ableton Live, Digital Performer, Reaper or Pro Tools, I hope there are some ideas here…
Here’s a quick custom action tutorial. Zoom to midi items, quantise, then humanise. I really like the humanise function in Reaper, as it avoids quantised notes layering up exactly on top of each other, and gives the mix a bit more breathing room.
Here’s a performance with Alison Moyet and Sean McGhee from a Sirius XM session we recorded during our recent US tour. They were so welcoming and obviously over the moon to have Alison in the studio.
The last three shows of the US leg of this tour will be San Francisco, San Diego and LA. Every show has been incredible so far. Amazing audiences. Looking forward to getting to Australia and New Zealand – they have a lot to live up to now! We will be saying goodbye to our US…
Two shows into the Alison Moyet US Tour and everything is sounding great. Very enthusiastic audiences. Having a lot of fun playing new songs and new arrangements of familiar songs. This is tonight’s venue in Boston. Day off tomorrow and then we play New York.
Just had an amazing week in the studio with my buddy and fellow Scissor Sister Bridget Barkan. Very excited to get these songs mixed and mastered and out into the world. So glad that we managed to find time this year to get together and record. Looking forward now to the rest of my summer…
On Saturday I was at Glastonbury Festival with Alison Moyet, witnessing the Jeremy Corbyn frenzy and struggling with technical difficulties on stage, and now I am in a luxury hotel on the Palace Promenade in The Hague. Amazing where this job takes you sometimes; such contrasts in small timeframes. Although Ableton decided to reset all our…
I am very proud to be involved in the making of this album. Sean McGhee and I co-wrote The Rarest Birds with Alison and Reassuring Pinches with Alison and Guy Sigsworth. Looking forward to touring new material in the Autumn.
Yesterday (3rd June 17) Graham Norton played The Rarest Birds, another song from Alison Moyet’s new album Other, on his BBC Radio 2 show. The lyric video is linked above. The song was written by Alison, Sean McGhee and myself.
Listen to the gorgeous title song from Alison’s new album “Other”. Sean McGhee and myself co-wrote TWO songs on this album. I’m beyond proud, and ridiculously excited for this record to come out. Alison is writing some of her strongest material, and it’s a huge honour to be working so closely with such a talent…
This month sees TWO reunions; the first reunion is of my old band Mauve la Biche. We are supporting the Cary Grace band at The King Arthur, Glastonbury, Saturday March 25th. Founder member Andy Budge and myself will be joined by David Payne on drums and Victoria Reyes on Keys and Vocals. I’m also playing…
